Memory!

Congratulations! You passed your belt test! You got a new belt! You're closer than ever to your black belt! I guess you can take what you have learned and chuck it out the window. You don't need it any more. Besides, there's a much cooler form to learn now and there's a new technique of the month. Are you kidding me? Have you lost your minds? That is not how a belt test goes! Belt tests are progressive, meaning you take what you have learned and you keep building on it. For example, take math. First you learn what numbers are. Then you learn how to add numbers. Then you learn how to quickly add numbers by multiplying them. You can't multiply if you forgot what numbers are. When you pass a belt test and you are wearing your new belt, what you are saying to everyone who sees you is, "I can pass any belt test below this belt I'm wearing any day and any time! Go ahead! Ask me to do a form! Ask me to count to ten in Korean! I can do it!"
